Detica specialises in collecting, managing and exploiting information to reveal actionable intelligence. We use this capability to help government and commercial clients reveal intelligence, maintain security and strengthen resilience in today’s complex operating environment. We also use our skills to assist clients with other information-intensive problems such as achieving regulatory compliance and understanding customer behaviour.


Due to ongoing growth, we have a number of exciting opportunities for Data Analysts to join the team.
 
As a Data Analyst you will develop analytics solutions using an array of technologies for clients, either on client site or working closely with the client. You will work with minimum supervision and alongside both the clients’ business and technical staff, reporting to either a Detica or client project manager. You will be recognised as owning deliverables, including responsibility for defining and shaping the analytical solution for data problems.


Requirements at all grades

 

·         Excellent analytical and problem solving skills using a range of statistical techniques

·         Hands-on analytical experience in technologies such as SAS, SPSS and R (other similar languages acceptable coupled with a demonstrated aptitude to learn)

·         Appreciation and understanding of commercial databases

·         Self-motivated and motivates others, keeping morale and performance high

·         Ability to prioritise workload and work well under pressure to meet deadlines and manage business expectations

·         Excellent presentation skills with the ability to present complex ideas to technical and non-technical audiences

·         Flexible approach to hours

·         Must be degree qualified and demonstrate an aptitude for applying data analytics or operating as a data analyst

·         To apply for this role you must be a British citizen (you can hold another nationality) and must have or be able to obtain Security Clearance.  For this process you will have to be able to prove your residency for the last 5 years

 

Experience of the following would be beneficial:

·         Understanding of common data quality problems, and data cleansing

·         Experience in writing SQL

·         Experience of a variety of operating systems

Further requirements for more senior grades:

·         Understanding of existing and emerging data analytics and processing technologies

·         Experience of leading small teams, taking a client problem and shaping the analytic solution
 


Responsibilities

  • Problem analysis
  • Go beyond routine questioning to find the underlying causes of problems or discrepancies to identify problems and develop sound solutions
  • Adapt and work effectively with a variety of individuals or groups and in a variety of situations, experimenting with possible solutions
  • Bug determination and fixing
  • Definition of a technical solution from poorly defined requirements to help shape the solution for the customer
  • Management of small standalone projects


 


The Individual

 

·         Should be able to define requirements from discussions with clients. Able to work with technical and non-technical colleagues and clients

·         Should enjoy rapid prototyping of solutions for demonstration and varied assignments, both long and short term in duration

·         Should be prepared to have hands-on involvement with building a technical solution

·         Should be prepared to remain in a technical role in the short – medium term

·         Has a strong interest in solving data-related problems and has experience of analytical problem-solving
