Job Description

Detica specialises in collecting, managing and exploiting information to reveal actionable intelligence. We use this capability to help government and commercial clients reveal intelligence, maintain security and strengthen resilience in today’s complex operating environment. We also use our skills to assist clients with other information-intensive problems such as achieving regulatory compliance and understanding customer behaviour.

By combining technological innovation with in-depth industry knowledge, we have developed a range of world-class solutions centred on our expertise in intelligence, security and resilience. This is backed up with over thirty years’ experience of developing solutions to some of the most complex security problems. Our business and technical consultants offer a range of core services from strategy formulation through people and process change to the development, delivery and support of software and hardware technology. Our understanding of today’s information-intensive challenges has also led us to develop a range of specialist services and products based on our unique intellectual property.

Detica delivers projects of significant scale across government and commercial markets in the UK, US and continental Europe. Our principal clients are government agencies responsible for intelligence, security and resilience. We also assist civil government and commercial organisations with a critical national infrastructure remit.

Detica Electronic Systems Group is looking for Digital Systems Engineers to expand our design teams.

Detica’s Electronic Systems Group provides the capability to design, build, install, and support world-leading technology. We develop hardware and software solutions to specific business and operational requirements. Our systems meet strenuous performance criteria and are characterised by innovative design frequently involving the latest FPGA technology for high speed data and signal processing.

Examples of products include gigabit speed packet processing platforms such as custom switches and routers; software radio systems implementing advanced signal processing techniques; and high speed floating point computation engines.

Our customers include a variety of government departments and defence, telecommunications and financial services companies, predominantly in the UK and US.

Requirements

In addition to an excellent academic background we are interested in candidates with significant experience in the following areas:

  • VHDL or Verilog development (eg multi-million gate FPGA solutions)
  • Experience of VHDL / Verilog simulation tools (eg Modelsim)
  • Digital circuit design
  • PCB design / set-to-work
  • Digital Signal Processing
  • IP based communications protocols and networks, telecommunications equipment
  • Some software experience (C/C++)

Candidates for more senior positions should also have experience of:

  • Linux kernel
  • Drivers (Windows / Linux)
  • Development of innovative solutions and technical 'white-papers' and accompanying commercial proposals
  • Project and programme management
  • Team leadership and mentoring
  • Customer-facing delivery and business development

The Individual

We work in small teams and, consequently, all of our staff must be able to design, develop, debug and deliver. We are a growing group of motivated people who all take on responsibility to meet and exceed our clients' expectations. Rather than being placed in a 'back room' lab, our engineers have the opportunity to mix technical challenges with customer-facing and project management tasks to give a wide variety of work on a day-to-day basis. Our highly-competitive salary and benefits package reflect the quality of the people we employ and the work that they do.
You need to be able to achieve the highest level of security clearance for this role.
